S1000D Conversion – Fact Sheet


S1000D Conversions for the Defense and Commercial Aerospace Industries

What is it:

S1000D is an SGML/XML based international standard that was initially developed in the aerospace industry and is now being applied to many industries where large complex pieces of equipment or complex processes are produced and supported.

In the US Military, the Office of the Deputy Undersecretary of Defense For Logistics and Material Readiness (OSD) is reviewing a directive that defense program documentation should be S1000D compliant.

The commercial aviation industry is in the process of adopting the S1000D specification as a replacement for the current ATA 2200 standard.

S1000D requires Business Rules (BREX) and Data Module Codes to be defined prior to conversion.
